Event Brief

The South America-Africa-Middle-Asia Women Summit (SAMEAWS) is an annual programme that brings together, the most influential and prominent women as well as key stakeholders from the South America, Africa, Middle East and Asian regions to re-emphasize critical role of women to the future of developing economies, celebrate influential and prominent female role models who are directly contributing to their development, and most assuredly, confront the inequalities women face and focus on the change we want to see – and create – in the world.

The 2022 edition of this summit, which has held in Dubai over the past 8 years,  would focus on the theme: “Forging and Adapting to New Realities for Greater Influence and Impact in a Rapidly Changing World” in light of the recent data from UN Women indicating that gender equality in the highest positions of power will not be reached for another 130 years as only 26 women are serving as Heads of State and/or Government in 24 countries in 2021, while gender parity in national legislative bodies will not be achieved before 2063 as only 19 countries have reached or surpassed 40 per cent of women in parliament, including five countries Latin America and the Caribbean, four in Africa, and one in the Pacific.

Needless to say, achieving the UN-sponsored Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is hinged on women’s equal participation and leadership. The objectives of the summit are therefore as follows:

  1. Convene Think-Tanks, Experts, Academics, Researchers and Research scholars to explore unique approaches to women’s greater influence and impact.
  2. Get global female business and political leaders to share and adopt new realities, best practises that would help strengthen their influence and impact in their countries.
  3. Convene a High-Level Roundtable Sessions and Panel Discussions for stakeholders across developing nations to engage and exchange experiences, lessons-learned and best practices in developing diversity of skills and female leadership in the society.
  4. Celebrate some of influential leaders and businesses across emerging economies, who directly contributing to community and national development.

Event Brief

Cities are the most complex mechanisms to manage because they deal with all the complexity that results from human activities and the pressure they exert on natural resources. In the developing world, data from the African Development Bank (AfDB) reveal that Africa has experienced the highest urban growth during the last two decades at 3.5% per year; and projections also indicate that between 2010 and 2025, some African cities will account for up to 85% of the population. As the world continues to see a growing urban population, African cities should be at the forefront in ensuring that the basic social infrastructural needs of the citizens are met, providing them a good quality of life, and achieving the ecological and energy transitions.

However, the growing urban population trend indeed raises unprecedented challenges in the region, with relatively low income per capita and lack of infrastructure. As the region already confronts critical deficits in infrastructure and related funding, the looming crisis in the provision of urban infrastructure, especially transport, is a serious cause of concern that requires particular attention. Similarly, African countries and cities continue to face the critical challenges of determining approaches to integrate sustainable development practices into the planning, financing, and implementation dimensions of their projects.

In light of this, the African Leadership (UK) Limited is thrilled to put together the Forum on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability Development in Africa to provide a pan-African platform where existing challenges, innovative approaches and ideas to sustainable urban regeneration and development can be collected, displayed, and discussed. This forum will feature a mix of lectures, roundtable sessions, and hands-on training session in four areas:

  • Urban Sustainability: Addressing Challenges And Tapping Opportunities
  • Evidence-Based Approach to Integrated Urban Planning
  • Urban Mobility and Transit-Oriented Development; and
  • Municipal Financial Sustainability and Financing the City’s Sustainability Plans.

The forum will realise the following learning objectives:

  • Acquire actionable insights, proven solutions and effective strategies to craft a roadmap to more liveable, workable and sustainable cities.
  • Identify common challenges and opportunities of urban regeneration projects and ways to move forward.
  • Understand the barriers to overcome and mitigating risks in building successful PPPP models for regeneration areas.
  • Integrating urban regeneration and sustainable urban development goals as a response to the impact of growing urbanization and sprawling cities.
  • Demonstrate how urban space regeneration can play a significant role in improving economic and social outcomes in a sustainable way.
  • Elaborate on the importance of facilitating knowledge exchange to identify common challenges, opportunities and best practices.
  • Unrivalled networking opportunities with sustainability development and environmental experts from across related industries.

Expected Participants:

  • National and City Government officials;
  • Policymakers; and Institutional practitioners from across Africa.

Event Brief

Africa is home to some of the fastest growing economies in the world, and despite the much-hyped stereotypes of a continent forever plagued by disease, war and turmoil, it is rapidly becoming the most desirable investment destination in the world today. Though the African economy has been badly hit by the pandemic, one of the apparent pathways economic transformation and sustainability in Africa is for policymakers to intentionally grapple with the exciting opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) in Africa which has been upending the nature of work, globally.

By 2030, Africa’s potential workforce will be among the world’s largest, and with the needed infrastructure and skills for innovation and technology use, the 4IR will spur massive opportunity for growth. In recent years, the ICT sector in Africa has continued to grow, a trend that is likely to continue as available data shows that mobile technologies and services have generated 1.7 million formal and informal direct jobs, as well as contributed to $144 billion of economic value (8.5 percent of the GDP of sub-Saharan Africa), and $15.6 billion to the public sector through taxation.

In the same vein, the Industry 4.0 will narrow the traditional; engender digitization of the manufacturing sector, with tremendous opportunities for African manufacturers and small and medium enterprises to create new business models of the future and integrate into global value chains seamlessly.

The African Leadership Magazine is therefore putting together The ALM Africa Summit-2021 to bring together Policymakers, private sector leaders, Industry Titans, and all stakeholders during this forum to contribute to shaping a new future for our continent. The summit will also offer a platform for Africa to showcase the key investment opportunities, and celebrate the African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2021, a highlight of the summit.

Key Highlights of the Summit

  • Keynotes and Panel discussions
  • Investment opportunities showcase from states, regional and national governments
  • The 11th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2021.
  • Editorial listing of Top 50 Industry Leaders 2021
  • Unveiling the ABLA special edition
