MINISTER OF PETROLEUM, ENERGY & MINES, THE GAMBIA
Hon. Nani Juwara is a dynamic and results-driven leader, spearheading The Gambia’s energy and natural resource transformation as Minister of Petroleum, Energy & Mines. With a vision for sustainability and economic growth, he has championed strategic policies that are reshaping the country’s energy landscape, fostering investments, and ensuring energy security for future generations.
Under his leadership, The Gambia has launched the Independent Power Producer (IPP) Regional Solar Park, a groundbreaking renewable energy project designed to boost solar capacity and provide affordable electricity to households and businesses. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the validation of the Quarrying Regulations 2024, establishing a robust framework for responsible mineral extraction, environmental protection, and compliance with global best practices. His proactive engagement with ECOWAS and international partners has positioned The Gambia as a key player in West Africa’s energy and mining sector.
Prior to his ministerial appointment, Hon. Juwara made a lasting impact as Managing Director of the Gambia National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), where he spearheaded operational reforms that improved efficiency and service delivery nationwide. His strategic vision, coupled with an unwavering commitment to sustainable development, continues to drive The Gambia toward a future of energy independence, economic prosperity, and environmental stewardship.
